5. In recent years, a new project, named The Yahara River Park Project, has proposed reconstruction of Stoughton’s dam. What would NOT be a result of this proposed project?
A.) A Whitewater Rafting Park
B.) Drop Pools
C.) Pedestrian Bridge
D.) Hydroelectric Power
Answer: If you said hydroelectric power, then you must give a dam about the dam in Stoughton. Recently, a new project has been stirring controversy in Stoughton—The Yahara River Park Project. The project is set to reconstruct the dam in Stoughton, which would, in turn, lead to, “improve[d] recreational opportunities in Stoughton,” according to the Stoughton Parks & Recreation Department. This could include all of the features listed above except hydroelectric power; the Yahara River Park Project would focus primarily on recreation. This plan still needs approval from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, specifically through three permits needed for the park’s state-level approval, which they plan to take action on this fall.
