Cooking isn’t anything new to Sanjay Bhandari, owner of Stoughton’s newest restaurant, Indian Curry House. In late December 2023, Indian Curry House opened its doors to the community and became Stoughton’s one and only Indian cuisine restaurant.
Bhandari got his start in the restaurant business when he first immigrated to the United States of America in 1990.
“[Indian House in Chicago] was my first job when I moved here,” Bhandari said.
Indian Curry House has an expansive menu with over 55 items, some of which include basics like tikka masala and naan bread, but also more diverse authentic options such as Goa Fish Curry, seasoned tilapia cooked in coconut sauce, or Gulab Jamun, golden fried balls of milk pastry soaked in sweet saffron syrup. The large menu and delicious food are all thanks to the team of chefs at Indian Curry House.
“Our head chef [Jaipal Singh] has over 25 years of experience,” Bhandari said.
Being Stoughton’s only Indian restaurant, Bhandari hopes the community will start eating Indian food more regularly, or for some, for the first time.
“Indian food is now becoming popular, and all these other countries like Indian food, so we hope Stoughton will too,” Bhandari said.
Owning a restaurant is no small task, but Bhandari is excited for the new opportunity to be open here in Stoughton.
“In the restaurant business, there’s a lot of hours, but it is fun,” Bhandari said. “You meet a lot of good people.”
Bhandari hopes to grow the business over time. The restaurant has signed a 5-year lease, but room for growth within the next few years is still possible, according to Bhandari.
“Maybe in the future, we will have a little bigger place, with some more opportunities,” he said.
Indian Curry House is currently in the process of being fully open to the public. The restaurant is slowly getting ready to be at total capacity by finalizing things like setting up a register, hanging the sign, and connecting the phone.
One thing that is fully ready, however, is the food. With an impressive kitchen and talented kitchen staff, Bhandari hopes Stoughtonites will try something new and stop by Indian Curry House. Indian Curry House is located at 971 N Page St and is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. every day except Tuesdays.
“Come down and try our food for some authentic Indian Cuisine,” Bhandari said.
