After surveying almost 100 students and staff at Stoughton High School, the results are in! This year’s Staff Grammys have been awarded to nine of our amazing staff members!
Best Hair: Mr. Kruse
Whether he’s walking through the halls, or stopping into classrooms to say hi, his shiny head means business. Even though he might be follically challenged, his spirit remains full and lush. The winner of “Best Hair” is Mike Kruse. “I’d like to thank [Josh] Thomas for working the magic as well as I am,” Kruse said. When asked about how he feels about winning this Grammy, he continued with, “Not much bothers me to be quite honest, and I’ve had my hair cut like this for quite some time now.”
Best Dressed: Mr. Lodahl
This history teacher has the muscles to back up his victory, as well as the ability to make any shirt a muscle-tee. Is he a teacher by day and bodyguard by night? The winner of “Best Dressed” is David Lodahl. “I’d like to thank [Eric] Smith and [Jason] Becker for complimenting my clothing choices quite frequently, ” Lodahl said. “I’m surprised that I won considering I usually only wear Stoughton athletic apparel and blue jeans, but I’m guessing that my winter suit is what carried my win.”
Most Energetic: Mr. Last
You may have heard him from across the school each hour shouting “GOOOOD MORNING FOLKS!,”or maybe you walk by room 410A and see him dancing while teaching logarithms. Either way, Rob Last’s amazing, animated, and vibrant teaching style has secured him the winner of “Most Energetic.” “I’ve always felt like no matter what job you have you have to find a way to enjoy as much of it as you can. There will always be crappy parts of every job you have, so I just try to find and enjoy the heck out of everything that I have,” Last said.
Funniest Teacher: Mr. Casey
You may know him as a triple threat in singing, teaching, and the guitar, but it doesn’t stop there. Ryan Casey’s jokes have just won him the Grammy for Funniest Teacher! “I like to make my classroom environment as fun as possible, and it’s good when everybody’s having a good time,” Casey said. “I’d like to thank my students for giving me my sense of humor and making me keep up with them.”
Most Iconic Classroom: Ms. Lynch
If the plethora of posters, color-coded books, and lamps didn’t give it away, then her warm personality and smile definitely did. The winner of Most Iconic Classroom is none other than Julie Lynch! “I’m very honored [to win this award], because I spend a lot of my time at Hobby Lobby, Half Priced Books, and Target looking for inspiration for my room,” Lynch said. “It makes me so happy that it also makes my students happy.”
Most Likely to Laugh at Their Own Jokes: Mr. Nortwen
From ancient Babylonians to Aztecs, Dan Nortwen has the ability to make funny quips on the spot, night or day. His comedic spontaneity has won him “Most Likely to Laugh at Their Own Jokes!” “I don’t [always] tell jokes to get the laughs, but I always laugh anyways,” Nortwen said. “I’d like to thank Hawkeye Pierce from M.A.S.H [for inspiration] because a lot of his jokes weren’t funny but he always just kept them coming.”
Best Car: Ms. Ross
Whether you see her pulled over at the stop sign in her white Mercedes-Benz, or hear her talking about her cool car, Ann Ross has the bougie wheels to sweep away the competition and win “Best Car.” “I’m so excited! This is a life-changing experience,” Ross said. “I’ve always wanted to win ‘Best Car’ at SHS. I’d also like to thank the Stoughton Police Department for helping me realize how to come to a complete stop at the stop sign across from the school.”
Most Likely to Have a 200-Day Duolingo Streak: Ms. Oelke
If her career choice as a Spanish teacher at SHS didn’t make her the obvious winner, then her love of learning four languages would. Andrea Oelke has won “Most Likely to Have A 200-Day Duolingo Streak.” “I don’t know what Grammy I expected, but this one does make sense,” Oelke said. “It’s funny though, I actually don’t use Duolingo very much anymore.”
Best Shoes: Ms. Fischer
From Jordans to dunks, Toni Fischer’s shoe game is well known throughout SHS by students and teachers alike. Her curation of fun sneakers makes her the shoe-in for her win in the Grammy for “Best Shoes!” “I’d like to thank my son, who has a better shoe game than I do, even though it’s mostly funded by me. [But] if it wasn’t for him getting me into the super cool expensive shoes, there’s no way I would have won,” Fischer said. “I’m very honored [to win] because I love shoes a lot!”
