Throughout the 2023-24 school year SHS students in the music and art department have let their talents soar! This year has been filled with various performances showcasing our hardworking musicians, vocalists, and artists. From musicals to art shows, there is no doubt that these students had a successful year!
Band
This year, Band was as it usually is—musically gifted and a joy to experience! It hosted a multitude of events, including the Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and the Variety Show on May 4. The Variety Show hosted a Murder Mystery theme.
Besides the performances, they also showed up to every home football game and showed their school spirit. They also marched in the Syttende Mai parade, an addition that rounded out the day.
Orchestra
Orchestra held three concerts this year: one in the fall, one in the winter, and one on May 13. They overcame the struggle of losing a teacher during the year, throwing the performance schedule off, and forcing everybody to adapt to a sudden change in the midst of a year. They pulled through and showed what they were capable of at each concert, however!
Choir
This year Concert Choir and Chorale filled the school with a variety of songs throughout the year, with the fall Concert in October followed by the 47th Annual Madrigal Dinner. This year’s Head Table Madrigals included Rylee Campbell (10), Mikayla Becker (10), Molly Gracyalny (12), Megan Gille (12), Autumn Bonti (11), Ella Loup (12), Madeline Olsen (12), Alley Parks (12), Xavier Vogt (11), Miles Heritsch (11), Lukas Hartberg (11), Colt Patterson (12), Brandon Vaage (12), Soren Vienneau (11), Anton Royko (11), and Michael Anshutz (12).

Our soloists this year were Cadi Jemilo (12) “I See Red”, Madeline Olsen (12) “Creep”, Jaylyn Roe (11) “Blackbird”, Michael Anschutz (12) “Love Her Madly”, Ella Loup (12) “Mercy”, March Feiteira (11) “Sway”, Landen Odegaard (11) “Girl from Empenima”, Bug Dargel (10) “Who’s She”, Cajsa Engstrom (11) “Lush Life”, Kirsten Holm (12) “Cowboy Casanova”, Nevaeh Smithson (12) “You Should Probably Leave”, Sophia Nortwen (12) “You’re So Vain”, Miles Herisch (11) “Better Man”, Megan Gille (12) “Caroline”, Autumn Bonti (11) “Feathered Indians”, Anton Royko (11) “Wartime”, and Brandon Vaage (12) “Portrait of a Blank Slate”.
Finishing the year, the choirs held their Spring Concert at St. Ann’s Church featuring the song, “The Road Home” which included generations of choir alumni in the performance.
SHS’s Divine and Dive-In were also busy this year, with performances at every choir concert and at Summit A Capella in Oregon. Both groups also sang the National Anthem at various school events and scholarship nights.
Jazzkor, SHS’s jazz a cappella group performed at graduation, where they were joined by their graduating classmates to sing “Lonesome Road”.
Theater
Our theater department performed multiple successful shows this year, including Head Over Heels the Musical in October and the play Peter & Wendy in April.
Art
The Badger Conference Art Show was held in Oregon this year, but a show of SHS’ own work was displayed in the Performing Arts Center as well.
