Athletes have three seasons during the school year to show their excellence, and there is no doubt that through fall sports, they do. At SHS, athletes and fans can agree that great things happen during the fall seasons of football, cross country, volleyball, boy’s soccer, girl’s swimming, girl’s tennis, and girl’s golf.
The football team had a season full of ups and downs, but in the end, they were able to place third at conference and advance to the first round of playoffs. Through it all, the team won seven games and ended the season on a positive note.
Mason Richter is a senior and co-captain for the team.
“[I will most remember] playing with my friends for the last time and being coached by great coaches all of my high school career,” Richter said.
The boys cross country team had a successful season, winning runner-up at Badger Small Conference and advancing two runners to state.
Elijah Judd is a co-captain and the second-fastest junior in school history.
“We placed in the top 50% of teams at 7/8 of our meets, which were filled with D1 teams. The mix of different personalities worked together to make every day fun and made one of the hardest sports seem like an opportunity rather than a chore,” Judd said.
The positive results of this season already have the team excited to see what next year will bring.
The girls cross country team had a memorable season with injury scares and the smallest enrollment number in years. However, the team still managed to stay positive and achieve new PRs. A highlight of the season was senior Emelia Hopper earning second-team all-conference despite a difficult course.
Emerson Wozniak is a senior and has been a co-captain for the past two years.
“Running is hard, and our team practiced consistent perseverance even when we struggled. I love my team, and I wouldn’t trade the things I learned from cross country for anything,” Wozniak said.
The 2024-25 volleyball season wrapped up with lots of small victories and a third-place standing at the Badger Small Conference. The team pulled out wins against McFarland and Edgewood to end the season with a 25-13 standing.
Chalee Pinnow is a senior and a four-year volleyball player.
“I want people to remember the season as an impressive one. We won against teams that were difficult opponents…we kept with them or beat them,” Pinnow said.
The boys soccer team had a tough start to the season, with injuries plaguing numerous athletes. However, the team found their groove in the second half of the season and beat teams like Fort Atkinson, Reedsburg, and Jefferson.
Grady Postel is a senior and co-captain of the team.
“We were able to come together after a rough start of the season and finish on a positive couple of games,” Postel said.
The boys ended their season ranking one hundred thirty-nine in Wisconsin.
Girls swim has been making serious waves this season, breaking records and sending a team of seven girls to state. The 200 medley relay team placed 12th, and the 200 free relay placed 14th. Junior Cheyenne Burroughs took home second in the 200 individual medley and first in the 100 breaststroke to win state. The girls’ swim team also won the Janesville Parker Relay meet this season.

“I’m going to remember having such supportive coaches and wonderful teammates who made me a better swimmer and a bigger role model,” DeBruin said.

Nora Knoploh is a senior and co-captain of the girls’ tennis team.
“The whole team was hardworking and focused on winning while also having fun and enjoying the season. Everyone enjoyed spending time with one another, and we all formed close bonds,” Knoploh said.
The girls golf team has had a tremendous season; despite its small team of only five, the girls were able to take home third in the Badger Small Conference.
Meadow Sawicki is a junior and has helped lead the girls’ golf team for the past three years.
“I want the season to be remembered because the team worked hard and set new goals. We all put effort and time into our practices,” Sawicki said.
The team achieved its lowest score of one hundred ninety-two, and Sawicki earned second-team all-conference, to name a few accomplishments.
