By the start of the new year, SHS students were thrilled to see the latest renovation of the new cafeteria. After months of students sitting in halls, the time finally came for the long-anticipated debut of the refreshed dining area, which brought excitement and relief. It offers students a spacious layout to enjoy meals, hang out with friends, and relax.
The booths
Rating 5/5
If I could write my name in any spot in the cafeteria and claim it, it would be this one. The booth and high-back seating provide a cozy,semi-private feeling. They’re perfect for conversation and even focused work without feeling like you’re exposed to the cafeteria. Plus, I do love the sphere-shaped light bulbs.
Casual Corner
Rating 3.5/5
The only reason I would sit here would be if I’m bringing along a whole group of friends, and even then, I could see us fighting over who gets to sit in the booths. It’s not really exposed and seems inviting. The only drawback is that it’s a bit dark and can interfere with tasks that need visibility. Other than that, the nearby outlets are very convenient for someone who forgets to charge their phone a lot.
Below the TV Spot
Rating 3.5/5
It’s a nice spot! This is usually where I sit, and most things about this spot are the same as the last one. The only difference is that it is, in fact, closer to serving station utensils and microwaves, so I can quickly go if I need to grab something or warm up my food. I would definitely do some work as it is very bright, and I see myself focusing here.
High Chairs
Rating 2.5/5
I am not a big fan of high chairs, mainly because they do not have a lot of back support, and the chairs are very close together, which would interfere with my personal space. It is quite exposed compared to the corner spots, but if it’s for a quick breakfast, I would not mind sitting here to eat or do a quick email.
Next to the serving station
Rating 4.5/5
This spot seems very convenient and ideal for focused work or even a casual collaboration. I really like the combination of the different types of seating. So after a long study session I feel uncomfortable because of the lack of cushioning I could quickly switch to the next spot. I would definitely sit here for a long game night since it does have a decent size table.
Central Area
Rating 2/5
It is just a very awkward place, way too exposed, and I can’t see myself sitting where there is no wall next to me. I feel like I am being watched at all times. Even when lunch is done, the traffic flow can make it slow to go through. The only bright side is that it does the bare minimum which is a spot to sit.
