Since they opened in 2014, Viking Brew Pub has become one of the most important landmarks of Stoughton. It is owned and operated by Vik Malling and his wife, Lori, who have built a community by serving quality craft beer and authentic Scandinavian dishes. The pub features the one-of-a-kind Viking Ship Bar, as well as Hilda the dragon. (photo)
For years, this family restaurant has brought a unique charm to Stoughton, and now is an especially good time to appreciate it.
Recently, Vik and Lori have put Viking Brew Pub up for sale. Lori spoke on the matter, and discussed the future of the restaurant once it’s out of their hands. As of now, they have yet to choose a new owner for the pub, but plan to make their decision with careful consideration. “We hope that whoever we sell it to will want to continue what we’ve built,” Lori said.
She said she understands changes will be made, but preserving the culture of the establishment will be important in making their decision. The distinctive atmosphere and handcrafted aspects of the restaurant are a large part of what have brought customers in again and again and helped shape our town’s culture.
As much as they have helped the community, they recognize what the community has done for them. “Hopefully the place will continue to grow and support Stoughton. You know, as much as they’ve supported us, because that’s been a big thing. We wouldn’t be here, right?” Lori said.
While the pub has been built by its current owners and their family, the future holds more growth. When discussing her hopes for the future of the pub, Lori said, “I hope that the people come in and they want to take over and have this be a place that the community still wants to come and have dinner, socialize, do whatever,”.
Considering all the care and passion Vik and Lori have poured into building Viking Brew Pub from scratch, its loyal customers can be confident they will set it up for success on their way out. Change is coming, but the pub’s history as a cherished family-owned business will always be the same.
Now is a great time to visit Viking Brew Pub and appreciate our local businesses for all they have given the community, as well as wish Vik and Lori well as they plan to travel and spend more time with family. The community can look forward to seeing new innovation and creativity at Viking Brew Pub.
